Flash Flood Warning

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1245 PM EDT for
northeastern Fulton... Gwinnett and northern DeKalb counties...

At 849 am EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a thunderstorms with heavy rain passing over the warned
area. Rainfall amounts up to 5 inches was causing flashing flooding
on numerous small creeks as well as the larger creeks such as Big
Creek near Alpharetta... and Sweetwater creek and pew creeks near
Lawrenceville. Significant flooding is occurring on the pew creek
with the water level hitting the Patterson Road bridge which may
cause some erosion to the sides of the bridge.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as highways and underpasses.
Additionally... country roads and farmlands along the banks of
creeks... streams and other low lying areas are subject to flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway... the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

... Flood Watch in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of central Georgia... east central
Georgia... north central Georgia... northeast Georgia...
northwest Georgia and west central Georgia.

* Through this evening

* National Weather Service radar indicates that two to four inches
of rain... with locally higher amounts... has fallen across
portions of north and central Georgia this morning. Additional
amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts are
possible. The heavy rainfall axis will shift to the southwest
across the Metro Atlanta area during the mid to late morning.

* Flooding of the larger creeks and rivers is possible with
additional rainfall.

* Localized flash flooding will be possible if the heavy rain
repeatedly moves over the same area. Also... storm drains...
ditches... and low lying areas may become quickly clogged with
debris and cause extensive street flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor
later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those
living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
